« Desenrollando el cordel / Démêler le cordel / Untangling the cordel » (2020-2024) est un projet de recherche de l’Unité d’espagnol du Département des langues et littératures romanes de l’Université de Genève, porté par la professeure Constance Carta, avec le soutien de la fondation philanthropique Famille Sandoz-Monique de Meuron. Son objectif est d’étudier et de valoriser la collection de littérature de colportage espagnole, conservée à la Bibliothèque de Genève. Cette collection est composée de près 915 pliegos de cordel, datés principalement du XIXe siècle et issus d’ateliers d’imprimeurs de diverses villes de la Péninsule.

Il s’agit d’une part de numériser, de décrire et de mettre en ligne l’ensemble de cette collection au sein d’une bibliothèque numérique qui permettra non seulement d’accéder aux facsimilés numérisés, mais aussi d’en avoir une transcription enrichie et interrogeable pour des recherches dans le texte même. D’autre part, à partir de ce corpus numérisé et à l’aide des technologies numériques, ce projet vise plusieurs objectifs de recherche précis, tels que l’étude de ces textes d’un point de vue littéraire, l’analyse des colophons comme méthode de datation ou encore l’étude des gravures sur bois, qui ornent les premières pages des pliegos et qui constituent une ressource précieuse pour mieux comprendre le travail des imprimeurs, les intérêts et l’imaginaire de leur public, ainsi que la diffusion de ces images entre ateliers d’imprimerie.

Les membres de l’équipe sont Constance Carta (professeure assistante), Luana Bermúdez et Belinda Palacios (collaboratrices scientifiques), Elina Leblanc (post-doctorante en humanités numériques), Pauline Jacsont et Lorysmar Franco (collaboratrices scientifiques en humanités numériques).

"Desenrollando el cordel / Untangling the cordel" (2020-2024) is a research project of the Spanish Unit of the Department of Romance Languages and Literatures at the University of Geneva. It is led by Professor Constance Carta with the support of the philanthropic Sandoz-Monique de Meuron Family Foundation. Its aims consist of studying and promoting the collection of Spanish chapbook literature preserved at the Library of Geneva. This collection is composed of 915 pliegos de cordel, dating mainly from the 19th century and originating from printers’ workshops in svarious cities of the Peninsula.

On the one hand, this project aims to digitise, describe, and make the entire collection available online in a digital library. This will provide access not only to the digitised facsimiles, but also to enriched and searchable transcripts, facilitating research into the texts themselves. On the other hand, on the basis of this digitised corpus and with the help of digital technologies, this project seeks to fulfil several specific research objectives, such as the study of these texts from a literary perspective and the analysis of colophons as a dating method. Another main research interest is the study of the woodcuts which adorn the first pages of the pliegos and constitute a valuable resource for a better understanding of the work of the printers, the interests and imaginations of their public, as well as the dissemination of these images between printing workshops.

The project team is composed of Constance Carta (assistant professor), Luana Bermúdez and Belinda Palacios (research associates), Elina Leblanc (postdoctoral researcher in Digital Humanities), Pauline Jacsont and Lorysmar Franco (research associates in Digital Humanities).
